Course aims
The aim is to create possibilities to obtain following topics in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) in speech and in written form:
1. Arabic alphabet and pronunciation of the letters; nouns and adjectives;
2. verbs in MSA: regular verbs, hamziated verbs, assimilated, hollowed and defective verbs; verb moods;
3. syntax: nominal, interrogative, verbal, ʾinna and relative sentences.
Brief description of the course
This is a beginners course. The following topics of MSA will be dealt with during the course:
1. Arabic alphabet and pronunciation of the letters; nouns and adjectives;
2. verbs in MSA: regular verbs, hamziated verbs, assimilated, hollowed and defective verbs; verb moods;
3. syntax: nominal, interrogative, verbal, ʾinna and relative sentences.
The topics will be discussed through grammar exercises, reading texts and retelling them.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the grammar topics dealt with during the course;
- has skills to independently construct and understand sentences in MSA according to the grammar topics dealt with during the course;
- has ability to independently read and create texts containing the grammar topics dealt with during the course;
