Course aims
The aim of the course is to provide oppoertunities to develop knowledge on development of cultural history, its main branches, most significant representatives, main methods and works. The course will provide opportunities to develop skills to research culture historically and to work independently and critically with cultural historical texts.
Brief description of the course
The course will deal with the methodology and history of cultural history. During the course different ways are introduced on how it is possible to study culture in historical terms. The most significant cultural historical works and the views of their authors are introduced. Students must read through three significant cultural historical works and write a review on each of them (see requirements for independent work).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the main methods and branches of cultural history;
- has knowledge of the main stages of development of cultural history;
- has knowledge of most significant cultural historians and their works;
- has skills to undersand and give meaning to cultural phenomena in their historical perspective;
- has ability to analyse in writing at a basic level the texts of cultural history.
