Course aims
Purpose of this course is to give an introduction to most important theories and methods in Religion Studies.
Brief description of the course
The course will address main notions in religion studies (religion, sacred, god, course, taboo, myth, rituals, spirit etc), the origins of religion studies, how to classify religions in religion studies, different scholars in religion studies (M. Müller, W. R. Smith, E. Durkheim, E. B. Tylor, H. Spencer, J. G. Frazer, W. Schmidt, M. Weber, S. Freud, C. G. Jung, W. James, N. Söderblom, R. Otto, G. van der Leeuw, F. Heiler, G. Dumezil, M. Eliade, B. Malinowski, J. Waardenburg, G. Widengren, C. Geertz, P. L. Berger, N. Luhrmann, R. Stark, B. Gladigow, R. N. Bellah, G. Lanczkowski, C. Levi-Strauss etc) and their theories whereas different methods used within religion studies will be touched upon. The goal of this course is to introduce religion studies as contemporary and interdisciplinary field of studies.
