Introduce important developments in society and culture in German speaking countries, develop critical reading of theoretical sources and the basics of independent research.
Brief description of the course
Selected aspects of German culture are analyzed. Newer cultural developments in German-speaking countries, events of the newer history. The students deepen the ability to use sociocultural competence in the analysis of contemporary trends. Newer cultural theories (Post-structuralism, new historizism etc.) The seminar seeks to analyze various significant issues and their impact on society and culture in German speaking countries. The discussions are supplemented by the reading of theoretical literature, and the use of audio and video materials.
As a precondition of the exam active participation in the seminars and handing in written tasks is required. As preparation for the seminars reading of theoretical materials as well as practical tasks are required, the tasks will include both individual and group work.

Learning outcomes in the course
The student will aquire deeper knowledge about the newer developments in German speaking countries.
