Brief description of the course
The course focuses on current social, cultural, and political issues in German-speaking countries and their representation in journalism, social media, and audiovisual media. Students analyse discourses, argumentative strategies, and discussion cultures; explore broader contexts; and develop intercultural competence. Digital tools are used for analysis and visualisation. Includes group work and a final project.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with current discourses and cultural phenomena in German-speaking societies;
- analyses media and communication texts critically;
- applies principles of intercultural communication, interprets contemporary discourses in broader social, historical, and cultural contexts;
- uses digital technologies (including AI tools) for research and presentation;
- works collaboratively on a project and presents results clearly in German.
