Course aims

Knowledge about the history of French cinema. Capacities to analyse the esthetics of certain periods or schools of film art. Doing so on the bases of contemporary theories and methods

Brief description of the course

Differents periods of French cinema. Avangardism, impressionism, symbolism in cinema. Directors, critics, magazines.How to analyse films. Film and novel. The pre-requisite for the registration is A1 level in French.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to periodise the history of French cinema;
- is able to analyse films from different aspects in their temporal and aesthetical context;
- has capability to do so using contemporary theories and methods.
