Course aims
The objective is to give the students a basic knowledge of the Spanish film history and to provide them with the tools and abilities to be able to move through the Spanish movies catalogue with a critical approach and, in addition, to enhance their knowledge of the language and culture of Spain.
Brief description of the course
1. The birth of the Spanish cinematography.
2. The arrival of spoken movies.
3. The “colonialist” movies.
4. The Spanish film genre par excellence.
5. The general Franco sponsored movies after the civil war.
6. The transformation of the Spanish film art.
7. The boom of the Spanish cinematography.
8. The death of the general Franco and its effects on the Spanish cinematography.
9. Luis Buñuel, the Spanish movies maker genius.
10. The Spanish cinematography in democracy.
11. Pedro Almodovar, a genius to be demystified.
12. The Spanish cinematography in the 21st century.
13. The movies making in an economical crisis environment.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
