Course aims
Create possibilities to acquiere knowledge of the most important authors and books on their historical and cultural backround and in the framework of the World literature.
Brief description of the course
Belle Epoque, Barrès and nationalism;Colette, Proust, Valéry, Gide, catholic authors: Claudel, Mauriac, Bernanos; poetry: Apollinaire, dadaism, surrealism: Breton, Eluard, Aragon, Artaud; existentsialism: Sartre, Beauvoir, Camus ; theatre (thetare of the absurd: Ionesco Beckett, Adamov), Cocteau, Giraudoux, Anouilh; Nouveau roman: Robbe-Grillet, Butor, Sarraute; others: Genet, Giono, Céline, Char, Graq, Vian, Queneau, Modiano, Le Clézio, Yourcenar, Duras; the end of the century and the pluralism in literature, literary prizes, The French Academy prize, literary magazines.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to manifest basic knowledge about the authors, their work, literary schools and the main tendencies in the 20th century French literature;
- is able to analyze literary texts on their historical and cultural background and according to their belonging to a certain school of literature;
- is able to evaluate literary works in the broader context of world literature.
