Course aims

To offer an overview of the most important work and periods of Spanish literature.

Brief description of the course

Pre-Columbian tradition. Conquista and history chronicles. Birth of local literature. Baroque period: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Creol literature. Neoclassicism, Romanticism, gaucho-literature. 19th-century literature. Realism and regionalism. Costumbrism. Modernism. Avanguarde literature. 20th-century literature. Magical realism. Postmodernist prose. 20th-century poetry.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
An ability to study the theoretical part of the course and to write a paper on the compulsory literature.
