Course aims

To develop the skills for editing a longer text, using different databases, dictionaries and other materials; to create a basis for making desicions concerning the level of editing, for analyzing a text, and principles of editing.

Brief description of the course

An overview of different types of text and their characteristic features. Media texts and fact checking. Legal texts and normative techniques. Scientific texts and editing tables and figures. Fiction texts and following the writer's style.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to analyze the need for text editing;
- has skills for editing the text linguistically and conceptually (structure, density of the text, etc.);
- can collaborate with the author or the translator of the text;
- is able to use different databases and data sources, analyse corrections (s)he had made.
