Course aims
Designed to enhance the comprehensive language skills of students who have upper intermediate level of Mandarin Chinese language and to further develop student’s proficiency in speaking and writing for social, academic and professional purposes.
Brief description of the course
This is an advanced Chinese language course designed for students who have passed B2 exam or have acquired equivalent language ability. It aims to develop students_ advanced skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing by helping them to grasp complex grammar and increase vocabulary extensively through discussions of an array of topics concerning society, culture, economy and politics of today’s China in global contexts.
Independent work
The course consists of 100 hours of independent practice after class. Individual work involves fulfilling home assignments, home reading, and preparation for individual and group presentations both in oral and written form.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:

- acquire vocabulary and patterns necessary for understanding and conducting semi-formal discussions of social-cultural topics; 

- improve oral communicative competence by incorporating semi-formal usages;
-write and present more structured arguments in length
Assessment methods
The student has to participate in at least 70% of the lessons (60 hours), take all the tests and submit all home assignments by deadline. Grades will be assigned based on the following criteria:
Participation: 5%
5 presentations during the class: 5%
7 essay writing tasks before the final exam: 10%
1 group project: 5%
Final exam in the end of term (listening, reading and writing (75%) and spoken test (25%)): 75%
