Brief description of the course
COPYRIGHT. General principles of copyright, author’s rights, copyright holders, the duration of the author’s economic rights, licences, public domain, inheriting copyright, related rights, rights of the maker of a database.
INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY, TRADEMARK: the concept of trademark, differences between trademark and copyright, legal protection of trademarks.
PRIVACY, PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA: the concept of personal data, rights and obligations of processing data, the principles of processing data, the rights of the data subject, freely available data, portrayal of a person in the media, protection of privacy
ADVERTISING: advertising-related legal restrictions
FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND CREATIVE FREEDOM: legal safeguards of freedom of speech and creative freedom, protection of sources, limitations to freedom of speach and creative freedom, the media’s responsibility for content, defamation and insult
LEGAL REMEDIES: what and when can be claimed, the obligation to comply with claims, refusal to comply with claims, price reduction, interest, claim for the compensation of damage, claim for contract termination
PENAL CODE: who can be penalised and for what, penal norms in the field of media and communications.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the main principles of media and communications legislation;
- knows how to exercise their rights and take into account the rights and interests of other entitled persons;
- knows the sources of legislation governing the field of media and communications;
- is able to assess legal risks and recognise situations where it is advisable to consult an expert.
