Course aims
The aim of the course is to support students´ development. Students have to be active to be able to get knowledge and benefit most from the lecture. The additional aim of the lecture is to develop student´s knowledge, learning and entrepreneurship skills.
Brief description of the course
The aim of the discipline is to give an overview of the European Union Law. Students should get a basic knowledge on how the European Union Law functions in the International law system and in the European Union law. As the result, students should be able to analyse relevant questions related to the European Union Law. During the course a following overview will be given: the main functions of the institutions of the European Union (EU), the main principles of the integration of the EU throughout the history. An overview of the lawmaking process of the EU will be given. Thereafter, the four founding principles of the EU will be explained: free movement of goods, free movement of services, free movement of persons (incl. freedom of establishment) and free movement of capital. In addition, an overview of other important subjects of the European Union law will be given as well as the law of external relations of European Union.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the structure, history and institutional structure of the European Union.
- understands the four basic principles of the European Union Law (free movement of goods, services, persons and capital), understands the other domains of the commercial law of the European Union, knows the current issues and trends of the commercial law of the European Union;
- understands the law making process of the European Union;
- is able to find information about different issues of the European Union law from different sources.
