Course aims
An overview of the archaeology of North-West and Central Russia.

Brief description of the course
North-Western and Central Russian archaeology from Stone Age to Kiev Russ will be introduced. A historiographic overview of the development of archaeological thought and theory in Russia will be provided. Chronology, important cultural areas, artefacts and types of artefacts and developments of society will be presented.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Loengukursuse läbinu peab teadma Loode- ja Kesk- Venemaa arheoloogilise uurimise historiograafia võtmeisikuid ja põhiteoseid. Tundma sealses arheoloogilises interpretatsioonis valitsenud teoreetilisi suundumusi.Olema kursis Loode- Venemaa esiajaloo periodiseeringu ja kronoloogiaga, suutma lokaliseerida kohalikke rahvaid ning nende kultuure ja nende vahelisi seoseid. Orienteeruma erinevates muististeliikides ning omama ülevaadet materiaalsest kultuurist. Tundma kohalikke matusekombeid ning omama ülevaadet ühiskondade korraldusest.
