Course aims
To use the concept of love (both self love and love of others) to guide students through exploratory creative practices. To unpack the concept of love and loving with transdisciplinary research on the subject and raise awareness of contemporary approaches.
Brief description of the course
This transdisciplinary course explores the topic of love from theoretical and practical perspectives. Students are asked to read texts (academic and literary) on the subject of love organised thematically around different aspects of the subject for specific seminars (6 in total) while on alternative weeks students will use creative practice to explore the same topic from a more personal perspective in the form of journals, poetry, photography, mobile film making, etc.) which are then discussed in workshops (6 in total). From this dual process students will first conceptualise and then explore notions of love in the 21st century. Their personal creative explorations are informed by the readings and then the readings inform their personal creative explorations.
Final assessment will be a term paper on the subject which imbricates or is fully integrated with a creative work. For example, a video essay which creatively explores the concept of love while telling a story related to it or a term paper which integrates poetry on love or is itself more poetical. Final assessments will be proposed by students and approved by the course leader.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- analyses and compares interdisciplinary writings on the topic of love;
- explores love through creative practices and analyses the results;
- is able to synthesise their readings on love, and their creative practices into a creative term paper;
- can discuss love from a range of different perspectives addressed through the course.
