Course aims
Introduce junior researchers to entrepreneurial thinking to help tackle academic and real-world challenges.
Guide participants in exploring their inner strengths, domain expertise, and potential for impactful contributions within and beyond academia.
Encourage interdisciplinary interactions, collaborations, and network development.
Brief description of the course
This course focuses on developing entrepreneurial skills in researchers, blending theoretical foundations with practical exercises, and covers the following aspects:
- key Concepts in Entrepreneurship: Introducing key entrepreneurship terminology, concepts, and methods (such as the NABC Model, Effectuation, Design Thinking, and the Scientific Method) and their relevance to research work;
- discovering Your Entrepreneurial Self: Exploring personal strengths, resilience, and values through self-reflection exercises;
- domain Expertise: Understanding unique knowledge and competencies within one's field of expertise;
- building Your Network: Learning to build your network and understanding the importance of collaborators, mentors, and stakeholders in research;
- impacting Society: Identifying and increasing potential impact areas of one's research;
- presentation and Feedback: Wrapping up with group presentations of developed ideas for impact canvas and engaging in reflective feedback.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- identifies and applies entrepreneurial concepts in a research context;
- assesses and articulates their personal strengths and values as they relate to entrepreneurial endeavors;
- recognizes their unique domain knowledge and competencies as part of a broader entrepreneurial competence framework;
- builds and utilizes a professional network of collaborators, mentors, and stakeholders to support their projects;
- conceptualizes and plans translational research projects with potential societal impact.
