Course aims

To give an introduction to the practical use of selected statistical methods in sociological research and intrerpretation of the gained results.

Brief description of the course

The course is devided in six parts, in every part a diffrent analysis method is under study. Every part consists of one lecture and two seminars. In the lecture, there will be introduced the use of the particular method for approaching certain research question as well the options of interpreting the results. In the seminars, practical work in computer class will take place. In the first part of thr course, the emphasis lies on the analysis of changes and stability on the individual and group level. Second part of the course concentrates on causal analysis with using the linear regression method. In the third part, logistic regression analysis is under study. The fourth part intorduces the opportunites for the research by using factor analyis. Fifth part of the course is dedicated to the use of cluster analysis. In the sixth part, event history analysis is introduced.
