Course aims
To promote formation of the competence in the field of modern methods of the analysis of semantics and features of functioning of lexical units.
To receive the basic knowledge of theoretical base of functional lexicology and to learn to be guided in various lexicographic sources for the decision of various linguistic problems.
Brief description of the course
The basic concepts of Russian functional lexicology. Concept of a lexical word meaning etc. Word as communicative and nominative unit.
Hyponyms, hyperonyms, homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, etc. in Russian. Word as a sign. Semasiology, onomasiology, ethymology. Change of a word meaning, loan from other languages, etc. Problems of terminology.
Types of phraseological units/idioms. Russian lexicography. Classification of dictionaries of Russian.
Independent work: Performance of practical tasks on functional lexicology, phraseology and a lexicography. Preparation of the report for discussion at a seminar.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- Knowledge about modern directions Russian functional lexicology;
- Skill to spend the analysis of semantics of language units in view of their functional features
- Skill to use modern methods of the analysis lexical and phraseological units.
- To be able to be guided professionally in lexicographic sources.
