Course aims

To present an overview of the main questions concerning the teaching of Russian literature. To teach students the ability to organise lessons, to give an overview of the specificity of school literature analysis and give practical experience in the use of learning methods and the compilation of learning programmes. To give an overview of the principles of school programs. To increase the competence of future teachers in literary theory.

Brief description of the course

Literature as a subject. Literature lesson summary compilation. Development of methods of teaching literature through time. Modern methods. Methods of teaching literature. Methods of creative research, reproduced reading and possibilities for the analysis of this work. Analysis of the Russian literature programme in mainstream and secondary schools. Principles of literary text analysis. Summary compilation. Stages of working with fiction. The concluding lesson in a cycle on a written work. Teaching dramatic works and their analysis. Teaching poetic works and their analysis. Discussion of literary terminology at school. Oral and written ability of self-expression at school. Thesis, summary, composition. Expressive reading at school.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has skill of the qualified analysis of the literary text and its application in practice;
- has skill of definition of genre and stylistic specificity of a literary work, means of creation of figurativeness;
- has skill to make the plan-abstract for a lesson;
- has skill of drawing up of effective strategy and a technique in creation of a cycle of lessons on literature.
