Course aims
- Introduce regional cooperation around the Baltic Sea: economic, environmental, cultural, political and defence cooperation;
- Give an overview of the theoretical basis for regional cooperation;
- Get to know real and practical examples of cooperation;
- Teach connecting theory and practice in regional cooperation;
- Give an overview of the background and basics of the Baltic Sea countries.
Brief description of the course
During the course, the students learn the material, participate in seminars, take small tests based on the material and write papers.

The following topics will be discussed during the course:
Regionalism and regional cooperation
History of the Baltic Sea States
Baltic Sea environmental problems and cooperation
Baltic Sea economy and cooperation
Baltic Sea cultural and social cooperation
Baltic Sea defence and political cooperation
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the countries around the Baltic Sea and their differences;
- knows and can use regionalism and regionaal cooperation theories;
- knows the main problems around the Baltic Sea region;
- knows the different cooperation organisations and projects around the Baltic Sea;
- can analyse regional cooperation.
