Course aims
Give knowledge of the mechanisms and developmental stages of spoken thinking.
Develop the skill of metacognitive analysis of thinking processes.
Form the ability to understand the heterogenity of thinking and following limitations in communication processes.
Brief description of the course
Introduction. The principles of linking speech with thinking. The theory of semiotic mediation. Thinking and its development in animals (examples of pigeons, apes and other relatives of humans). Development of thinking in evolution of humans, birth and development of culture (especially evolution of art). Development of the child into a cultural human being (development of children’s drawings, conceptual thinking, self-consciousness). The thinking of the contemporary adult and its connections with feelings, will and action. Both individual and social aspects are discussed.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the abstract theory of the culture, speech and thinking relationships with its potential to explain interesting mental phenomena.
