Course aims
Create the possibilities for acquiring knowledge of the nature of social influence. Support the acquisition of knowledge that enable to analyze situations related to social influence and give an idea about one of the most practical fields of social psychology and teach how to protect oneself from the ways of social influencing.
Brief description of the course
The main concepts of psychology of influence. The nature of social influence. Creating motivation. Formation of attitudes. Cognitive dissonance. Conformity. Stereotypes and explanations. Imitation. Decisive heuristics. Contrast principle. Mutuality. Commitment and consistency. Automatism. Social reinforcement. Simulation. Agreeableness.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands simpler influencing strategies and are generally able to defend themselves against them.
- is able to analyse the relative success of various ways of influencing.
