Course aims
Major. Survey of the basic statistics of classical thermodynamics.
Brief description of the course
The second law of thermodynamics. Statistical sum and fluctuations. Fermi Dirac statistics. Bose Einstein distribution law. Classical statistics. Classical perfect gas. State equation. Heat capacities. Paramagnetism and ferromagnetism. Maxwell Boltzmann statistics. Chemical potential. Plancks radiation law. Debye theory. Bose Einstein condensate. Perfect Fermi Dirac gas at low temperatures. Superconductivity and superfluidity.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
