Course aims
To provide the student with an overview of didactical questions related to teaching of mathematics at highschool level.
Brief description of the course
General description of the secondary mathematics curriculum. Curricula for different types of high school. Knowledge about the content of the school subject: the extension of the notion of real number: rational and irrational numbers. Real numbers in everyday life, approximate computations. Methodology of teaching of equations and inequalities. Elements of vector calculus and trigonometry in gymnasium. Coordinate method, equations of several curves. Elementary functions. Notions of limit, derivative and integral, their applications. Statistics and theory of probability in secondary school. Straight lines and planes in 3 dimensional space. State examinations in mathematics and their effect for teaching mathematics. During the course, the student solves problems from the basic school mathematics curriculum and designs methodological tasks, which are discussed and analyzed under the guidance of the lecturer and in collaboration with peers.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the goals and organizational rules of mathematics education presented in the national curriculum;
- knows the structure and basic content elements of high school mathematics and can justify them;
- can solve high school math problems;
- has an overview of high school mathematics educational literature and online materials;
- can plan and analyze the learning process;
- have acquired basic skills for planning mathematics education, planning a credit lesson and implementing it.
