Course aims
Based on studies in didactics of mathematics, provide an overview of the intersection between educational technology and didactics, introducing students to software and interactive web-based tools used in mathematics education. Develop readiness for the implementation of such tools in mathematics education.
Brief description of the course
During the course, various programs and interactive web- based tools are introduced: GeoGebra graphical calculator and the teacher-oriented environment GeoGebra Classroom, Desmos graphical calculator and the environment Teacher Desmos, H5P interactive quizzes based on https://sisuloome.e-koolikott.ee. These instruments are examined through the lens of different theoretical approaches in the field of didactics of mathematics.

Key topics covered in the course include:
1) Different approaches to mathematics education: conceptual and instrumental.
2) Conceptual mathematics education and the self- regulated learner. Supporting the development of self- regulation.
3) Supporting students in planning, monitoring, and reflecting on their learning.
4) Cognitive engagement through the example of the ICAP model.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can use computer programs and web-based tools for teaching mathematics;
- can create various web-based e-learning materials and knows about different options for their storage and sharing in a web-based environment;
- knows the design principles of digital learning materials that support more effective learning and the development of students' self-regulation;
- can evaluate the appropriateness of using the respective instruments and tools.
