Course aims
To develop a coherent system of geometric concepts taught at school.
To provide an in-depth introduction to the methods of solving relevant problems and to enhance problem-solving skills.
To develop the ability to independently prove well-known theorems in planimetry.

Brief description of the course
Metric relationships in polygons; criteria for the congruence and similarity of polygons. The circumference and the circle. Trigonometric relationships in right-angled triangles and in arbitrary triangles. Constructions using a compass and ruler. Polyhedra and solids of revolution, including their surface areas and volumes.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has a deep and broad knowledge of the fundamental concepts of elementary geometry;
- is able to prove the theorems covered in the course;
- is able to solve problems in elementary geometry;
- is able to explain the principles behind geometric constructions and solve construction problems using a compass and ruler;
- is able to apply concepts of plane geometry to solve basic problems in solid geometry.
