Course aims
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of ordinary differential equations and their systems, and to develop skills in solving related problems. Applications of differential equations are also considered.
Brief description of the course
The concept of a differential equation, tasks leading to it. Equation with separable variables, Clairaut’s equation, exact equation, first-order linear equation. Structure and solution of higher-order linear differential equations. Systems of equations with constant linear coefficients. Cauchy problem. Nonlinear systems. Boundary value problem. Linear partial differential equation.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- defines the fundamental concepts and classifications of differential equations;
- formulates and explains the main methods for solving differential equations;
- solves first- and higher-order differential equations as well as systems of linear differential equations using analytical methods;
- applies theoretical knowledge of differential equations to solving applied problems in various fields (e.g., physics, biology, engineering).
