Course aims
To support the development of knowledges of methods in molecular ecology;
To support the development of skills that enable to use molecular methods in ecological studies
To suppoert the development of skills in analysing and handling of datasets obtained by application of methods of molecular ecology
To support the development of knowledges in the field of molecular ecology through the solution of practical tasks;
To support the development of skills that enable to use molecular methods in ecological studies
To suppoert the development of skills needed for gathering a representative dataset.
Brief description of the course
Following topics will be covered in lectures: molecular biology and ecology, molecular markers in ecology, genetic analysis of population, studies on ecologgically important trits, QTL analysis, ecogeneomics. Phylogeography and behavioural ecology. Conservation Genetics.
Classical and modern methods for detection of DNA markers, comparison of methods, pros and cons. Different markers.
Following topics will be covered in lectures: molecular markers in ecology, how to get molecular samples from the environment, the optimal size of the sample, how to ensure the purity of samples, how to preserv samples, how to analyse samples.
As an independent work, students have to collect samples and analyze them. The students will independently assess the representativity of collected samples and will present a written raport.
