Course aims
Minor. Practical class to learn the most common species of Estonian flora, fauna and mycota. Students should be able to recognise in the field the most common species of different groups. The skill of using different identification keys or handbooks of plants, animals and mushrooms is developed through individual work.
Brief description of the course
The course will be organised in two parts in summer outside Tallinn. During one week processes for collecting, determining and fixing plants and animals from various biotopes will be learned and practised. During second week in the end of August processes for collecting, determining and fixing mushrooms and fungi. The students will prepare a collection of plants, animals (invertebrates) and mycota for assessment.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knows well and can identify the species within the collections produced within subject. Possesses knowledge of common plant- animal, mushroom and fungal species in Estonia. Knows how to use identifying keys for plant- and animal species.
