Course aims

The course will give basic and general knowledge of history, design, working principles and usage of data communication networks and practical and market situation in Estonia. Emphasis is on the most widespread Ethernet networking system - working principles of different equipment and media, and on the TCP/IP protocol family. Principles of designing and managing Ethernet networks are also covered.

Brief description of the course

Introduction. Basic terms. Media and signals. Ethernet and other local area networks. Wide area networks and routing. TCP/IP. Internet. Network security and management.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
-teadmised andmesidest, võrkudest, Interneti toimimisest
-oskused orienteeruda andmesidevõrkude ja erinevate tehnoloogiate töös
-suutlikkus projekteerida andmesidevõrke ja kasutada turul pakutavaid teenuseid
-valmidus analüüsida ja lahendada TCP/IP ja Etherneti võrkude probleeme
