Course aims
Focus subject. The objective of the course is to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills for processing statistical data and carrying out elementary data analysis with the aid of SPSS software. The course is also set up to develop the ability to chose appropriate methods for analysis and presentation, as well as to understand and interpret correctly the meaning of statistical results.
Brief description of the course
Statistical data and preparation for analysis. Different types of data. Descriptive statistics: frequency and summary tables, statistics and charts. Relationships: measures of association and crosstables. Population and sample. Statistical inferences: confidence intervals, tests of statistical significance: t test, chi-square test, ANOVA. Parametric and nonparametric tests.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Kursuse põhiosa koosneb loengutest ja praktikumidest, kus üliõpilastelt eeldatakse aktiivset kaasamõtlemist ja –töötamist. Lisaks tuleb igal üliõpilasel teha mahukas iseseisev töö, mis koosneb õppejõu poolt ette antud praktilistest andmeanalüüsi ülesannetest kogu läbitud materjali ulatuses. Kasutatavad andmestikud võivad olla kas õppejõu poolt ette antud või üliõpilaste poolt mingi teise aine raames kogutud (nende kasutamine tuleb õppejõuga eelnevalt kooskõlastada). Õppejõuga kokkuleppel võivad üliõpilased iseseisvat tööd teha kaheliikmelistes gruppides.
