Course aims
The aim of the course is to develop students’ understanding of theories and models of disciplinary literacy. Disciplinary literacy is the specialized knowledge and skills needed to read, write, listen, and think within a specific field. Unlike general reading and writing approaches, dsiciplinary literacy focuses on the unique strategies, texts, and inquiry methods used to create knowledge in each academic discipline. Students will learn to identify and evaluate practices that support disciplinary literacy across subjects, as well as to apply these theories in instructional practice in order to support effective teaching and learning.
Brief description of the course
This course examines core principles of disciplinary literacies through an integration of theory and practice. In addition to engaging with key theories and research, students actively apply disciplinary literacy approaches by designing and implementing instructional practices in their own educational contexts.
