Course aims
Develop knowledge to distinguish between different wooden materials and readiness to use them in your practical work. Getting to know the properties and processing methods of wood during lectures and practical work. Acquisition of technological knowledge and practical skills in woodwork for teaching this subject at the basic school level.
Brief description of the course
Overview of wood as a utility material. Wood construction, defects, types, drying, storage, treatment, measurement and volume calculations. Writing an independent work related to wood and trees in Estonian folk culture.
Getting to know the physical and technological properties of various wood materials for the purpose of their processing. Acquisition of manual and machine wood processing technologies and techniques. Wood processing teaching methodology.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can distinguish and determine the most common types of wood;
- knows the physical and technological properties of wood;
- can choose suitable material for practical work;
- knows wood processing technologies;
- can use woodworking tools;
- can feel the object's proportions and appreciate the object's aesthetics;
- knows the conditions and requirements of safe working;
- knows the methodology of teaching wood processing.
