Course aims
Gain general knowledge of types, properties and use of plastic materials. Gain knowledge and skills about the possibilities of manual processing of thermoplastics.
General knowledge of CNC and laser equipment and programming software. Acquire the ability to use existing software and hardware independently to teach this subject at the basic school level.

Brief description of the course
Types of plastics. Manufacture of plastics. Thermoplastics and reactoplastics. Properties of plastics depending on the type. Manual processing of plastics. Glueing. Cutting.
Introduction of CNC milling machine and laser machine tools. Milling programming, bench coordinate system, contour description. Preparation of geometry information in the CAD environment. Conversion of models completed in Solid Edge, SketchUp and Autodesk Fusion 360 software packages to be suitable for CNC and laser machine tools. Preparation of geometry information in the CAM environment with Carbide Create and LightBurn tools. Scanning and making copies on a milling machine.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can distinguish different types of plastics by marking;
- knows the properties and uses of the most common plastics;
- is able to choose types of plastics suitable for hobby classes and lessons (safe for health);
- knows how to process plastic materials and is able to process them by hand;
- can program simpler objects with Carbide Create and LightBurn;
- knows the principles of CNC technology;
- can set up CNC milling machine and laser machine tool;
- can use and maintain CNC milling machine and laser machine tool.
