Course aims
The aim of the subject is to develop in students an understanding of the processes of food intake and digestion, the causes and the nature of special diets, and to deepen the analytical skills of nutrition-related problems.
Brief description of the course
Nutrition and health. General characterization of the blood circulatory, connection with the digestive system. General characterization of the digestive system. Digestive enzymes. Digestive juices and their secretion. Food digestion in mouth, stomach, small and large intestine. Absorption of digested products. Hungriness and satiety. Appetite and nutritional behavior regulation. Individual aspects of metabolism. Compiling of day and week menus. Nutrition of the case of overweight. Bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa. Stress and nutrition. Special diets and their analysis. Raw food and the vegetarian diet. Menu analysis. Nutrition research are prepared and analyzed.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Can analyze nutritional information, knows special diets and factors that affect them;
Can evaluate diet related problems, knows how to solve them and make balanced menu.
