Course aims
1. To create opportunities for developing didactic knowledge and skills for teaching handicrafts and home economics in general education schools.
2. To support the integration of theoretical knowledge through the practical design, preparation, and testing of didactic teaching materials.
Brief description of the course
The subject of Didactics of Home Economics deals with theoretical, didactic, and practical preparation for teaching in a general education school.
General education school curriculum. Subject area and study organization recommendations. Development of general competencies. Integration and leading topics of the curriculum. Application of didactic principles in teaching. Classroom requirements for handicraft and home economics education. Structure of lessons. Teaching methods and their application subject-specifically. Different forms of control and what is necessary for the teacher. Different forms of assessment and feedback. Didactic tools used in handicraft and home economics education. Demonstrating work techniques and utilizing visualizations in practice. Preparation, conduction, and feedback of subject lessons.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of these subjects in the national general education school curriculum and understands their connection with the general framework and provides examples of integration principles;
- evaluates and analyzes the importance of the learning environment in the learning process;
- plans handicraft and home economics lessons and creates suitable teaching tools and feedback opportunities for their implementation;
- is able to formulate subject knowledge clearly and logically both in speech and writing.

Additional information
Assignments related to the required literature are given in contact classes. Based on the assignments, students prepare for seminars.
