Course aims
The opportunities of dance and movement therapy to deal with problems of children and adolescents in their different stages of development, prevention and early intervention.
Brief description of the course
Introduction of the methods of dance and movement therapy in the work with children and adolescents. Different stages and tasks of development over the lifespan. Lifespan from different perspectives (physical, cognitive, emotional and social). How to create/define an understanding of normal and pathological development. The effect of genetic and environmental factors on development. Disorders in children and accompanying patterns of motor behaviour. The role of the family in a child’s development, involving the family in an efficient intervention.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students:
Have knowledge about the effect of dance and movement on children and specific features of their application on children;
Have an overview of more common disorders in children and adolescents;
Can plan the use of the methods of dance and movement therapy in the work with children and adolescents;
Can plan therapeutic activities at school and in the work with a child’s family.
