Course aims
To support students in acquiring skills and to gain experience of choir conducting and performing in front of other students. To introduce choir specific score reading and playing techniques.
Brief description of the course
Conducting techniques. Conducting the most common time signatures. Pitch. Dynamics gestures: piano, forte, mezzoforte. Singing voice parts, playing choral scores. The basic and formal analysis and interpretation of songs. Working with the repertoires of children’s and boys’ choirs. Independent work with music listed in the course programme.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- The student can conduct music in different time signatures
- Is in command of different conducting techniques (Upbeat)
- Is able to play the choral scores and sing different voice parts
- Can independently analyse the choral pieces (in writing, orally)
