Course aims
The objective of this course is to provide an first inside into research, basic concepts of scientific thinking and scientific methodology as well as problems of scientific working, also to develop searching, writing and argumentation skills.
Brief description of the course
The following subjects are discussed:
• the concept of research, scientific thinking, methods;
• retrieving literature, efficiency in reading and using (e.g. formatting references)Independent work: reading texts; searching texts; writing an introduction with title page and a historiography with formatted references; participating in CFMAEYTT international scientific conference and compiling summaries of the listened papers with a minimum of:
- 4 main presentations (ENG)
- 8 papers (ENG) or 3 papers (ENG) + 8 student papers (EE)
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
After passing the course, the student:
I knows basics of research, scientific thinking and important methodologies;
II is able to compile an introduction with title page and historiography as well as formatting references;
III summarizes scientific/research papers.

A - differentiates between scientific and non-scientific thinking theoretically and practically; knows and is able to practically apply widely used (quantitative and qualitative) methods in accordance to the context; introduction with title page and historiography are compiled comprehensively, logically and systematically; references are formatted correctly and in accordance to the historiography
B - differentiates between scientific and non-scientific thinking with examples; knows widely used (quantitative and qualitative) methods; intrduction with title page and historiography are compiled comprehensively, logically and systematically; references are formatted correctly (may include accidental minor errors)
C - differentiates between scientific and non-scientific thinking, knows some widely used (quantitative and qualitative) methods; introduction with title page and historiography are compiled comprehensively, logically and systematically; references are formatted with minimal errors
D - differentiates between scientific and non-scientific thinking, differentiates between quantitative and qualitative methods; introduction with title page and historiography are compiled generally comprehensively; references are formatted with some errors
E - is unsure in differentiating between scientific and non-scientific thinking; is unsure in differentiating quantitative and qualitative methods; introduction with title page and historiography are compiled with major errors, references are formatted with errors
F - is unable to differentiate between scientific and non-scientific thinking; is unable to differentiate between quantitative and qualitative methods; introduction with title page is compiled not in accordance with academic requirements; references are formatted not taking into account academic requirements
