Course aims
To provide the students with the necessary information on patents and copyright.Based on current legislation to give an overview of intellectual property rights (PPR), especially copyright and related rights, so that after completing the course a student is able to understand and assess the legal issues resulting from intellectual activity, is familiar with the general terms of a licence agreement and understands the principles of devision of rights between the employer and employee.
Brief description of the course
IPR concept, legal grounds, duration and instruments.
Copyright: author, works protected, material and immaterial rights.
Related rights. The rights of makers of databases. Free use of works.
Linking. IPR and law of agreements, licenses. Standard terms and free
use of works. IPR and labour law: rights of the employer and employee.
The main part of the course consists of lectures and seminars. As a part
of self dependant studies students work through the legislation and
prepare case studies.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
An overview of coyright and related rights, IPR terminology, ability to prevent problems and negotiate licence agreement terms.
Ability to assess legal risks as an author as well as the user of intellectual property.
