Course aims
To give students knowledge of nutrition and physical activity. Students acquire skills to teach nutrition and physical activity subjects in secondary schools.
Brief description of the course
Nutrition and motivation. Recognising eating disorders and possible methods for assistance. Risk factors connected with nutrition and their prevention. Healthy eating habits. Balanced diet. Food pyramid. Food energy and physical activity. Saturated fats, salt and refined sugar in food. Healthy alternatives. Nutrients in food. Hidden sugar and fats. Vegetarian diet. Healthy ways of preparing and preserving food. Nutrients elevating immunity. Pro-and antioxidant food. Dental care. Influence of physical activity upon health. Possible health risks of hypodynamics, hyper- or one-sided physical activity. Evaluation of physical activity. Concept of aerobic and anaerobic load. Resistance, endurance, powertraining and health. Physical activity, food choice and frequency of eating. Physical activity as anti- or pro-oxidant action. Physical activity and chronic diseases & disability.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Lectures, practical training, group work (example exercises and presentation of individual group work results), independent work (oral and/or written test on programmed additional material).
