Course aims
To give students the knowledge and skills required to give first aid and resuscitation in accidents or emergencies. Students acquire the skills to give first aid and resuscitation and to teach them in secondary schools.
Brief description of the course
Correct sequence of actions in serious (grave) accidents. Life endangering (threatening) bleeding, control of bleeding. Causes of unconsciousness and their quick assessment. Resuscitation. First aid for suffocation, fainting and shock, wounds, electrical injuries, bruises, poisoning, chemical burns, fractures, sprains, dislocations, effects of extremes temperatures (heat, frost), sudden child birth (emergency delivery). Teaching of bandaging. Handling (carrying) and transport of victims. Psychological first aid.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Lectures, practical training, group work: practical demonstrations of first aid and resuscitation. Control of independent work: oral and /or written test on additional programmed material.
