Course aims
To provide first knowledge of strategic communication management, its principles, knowledge and stakeholder based approaches; to introduce planning processes and provisions to apply these in practice. The course aims to provide knowledge to analyse organizations’ activities in the context of communication management and creating relationships. The course helps to understand the differences between public, private and third sector communication. The goal is to perceive corporate social responsibility as natural part of business model. Students also acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to integrate CSR into corporate communication management
Brief description of the course
Strategic communication is a course that introduces the importance of strategic planning, communication in different sectors, corporate social responsibility and stakeholder based approach in effective communication. The course approaches public relations theories and practice through cases. The course creates a base for professional skills necessary for communication managers.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has acquired following skills and knowledge after completing the course:
- has knowledge how to plan communication activities strategically and skills to use these in practical communication work;
- has broader knowledge of strategic planning and strategic thinking, skill to make a communication plan;
- has skill to plan communication based on the expectations and needs of the target groups;
- understands the differences of public, private and third sector communication;
- knows the theoretical concepts of corporate social responsibility;
- works independently with professional literature;
- analyses communication cases independently;
