Course aims

To create opportunities for:
-Knowledge of the nature and main processes of management in an educational institution;
- conceptualising, analysing and planning for changes in learning culture at different levels of the educational system;
- understanding the opportunities and responsibility of the head of education in shaping learning culture;
- planning, carrying out and comparatively assessing the results of development or activity research to change learning culture while cooperating internationally.

Brief description of the course

The nature of management and its main processes. Learning and teaching cultures in educational institutions. Workplace-based learning. The role of the head of education in developing and changing learning culture through values, practices and beliefs. The teacher as a leader.Managing change. Activity research. Development research. Networks and learning communities. Management of cooperation networks in implementing development research. Project planning and management.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the nature of management and the main processes and is able to apply its knowledge to an educational institution management;
- critically analyses the learning and teaching culture of an educational institution and identifies development needs;
- is able to plan and implement development or activity research to support the formation of learning and teaching culture that supports learning and development;
- understands the role and tasks of the head of the educational institution in forming a learning environment that supports the learner´s development;
-is able to plan the process of change.
