Course aims
The aim of the subject is to support the development of students' understanding of the nature of entrepreneurship and career, as well as the principles of developing these competencies.
Brief description of the course
The nature of an entrepreneurial mindset and the personality traits associated with entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship as a key competence. The importance of entrepreneurship in the context of future job skills.
The roles of vocational teachers and youth workers in the development of students' entrepreneurship.
The Entrepreneurship Competence Model and its sub-competences (self-management, social problem solving, value-creating thinking and solution finding). An entrepreneurial learning approach. Entrepreneurship pedagogy: didactical system and pedagogical choices in developing entrepreneurial competences (planning the development of entrepreneurial competences, creating a learning environment, choice of teaching methodologies and learning materials; integration and cooperation, including with entrepreneurs, in developing entrepreneurial competences).
The nature of career and the development of career. Principles of career development and main career theories. Career services in Estonia (career counselling, career information, career education). Model of career development competences (self-awareness, analysis of opportunities, planning, action). The role of the vocational teacher and the youth worker in the development of career competences. Practical methods for developing career development competences and for delivering career education lessons.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- develops own understanding of entrepreneurial mindset based on literary sources;
- describes the nature of careers and the different theories of careers, drawing on literary sources;
- understands the nature and importance of entrepreneurship and career planning in their professional life and in shaping students' future work skills;
- explains the system of career services in Estonia and highlights their differences according to the needs of the target group;
- plans own career based on theoretical career planning paradigms and labour market trends;
- analyses the methodology of learning core competences supporting entrepreneurship and career development;
- analyses the practices and possibilities for implementing entrepreneurship pedagogy according to the target group;
- designs and implements the necessary learning activities to develop entrepreneurship and career development competences.
