Course aims
The course aims are:
- to support development of students' knowledge and skills in the rational planning, conducting and evaluating of didactic teaching based on the learner-centered teaching in the learning process and the peculiarities of students in vocational education.
- to create an opportunity to development of management-related skills of placement.
Brief description of the course
The topics handled on the course:
forms of organization of studies. Goal, objectives and content of theoretical studies. Theoretical and practical lesson, setting goal to it and planning according to the peculiarities of the student-centred teaching in vocational training.
Lesson structure. Implementation of the module (Teacher's work plan). Various teaching methods. Relevance of illustration. Assessment, feedback. Creation of an environment conducive to learning.
The concept and objectives of practical studies. Forms and ways of organizing practical studies. Planning and assessing practical studies. The methods of practical studies
Development of organization of placement in Estonian vocational education, its bottlenecks. Targeting and planning of placement; individual targets of the placement of the learner; requirements of placement documents; preparing students for placement;the school’s and the company's guidance of the placement; assessment of the practice involving all parties; cooperation with employers in finding apprenticeships, internships planning, conducting and evaluating.
The course is conducted in the form of lectures and seminars, to support independent work, e-environment is used.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- plans the teaching and according to the curriculum and related documents.
- formulates intelligible objectives and learning outcomes of theory and practice lessons based on learning outcomes of the curriculum and the module;
- plans study didactically rationally, using learner-centred teaching methods in both theory and practice, according to the
peculiarities of students in vocational training;
- shapes mentally, socially and physically safe learning environment encouraging learning and progress of the student in accordance with the learning outcomes, taking into account the specificities of learners;
- in planning teaching takes into account the integration of key competences, general studies, and inter-professional learning;
- understands the importance of assessment and feedback and chooses feasible evaluation methods based on learning outcomes, and learners.
- discuss the organization of placement trends and developments in the light of current problems of the Estonian vocational education;
- orient in vocational educational organization of placement, the governing legislative acts and documentation;
- analyse the organization of placement in vocational school and make suggestions for improving it.
