Course aims
The objective of the course is to create opportunities for understanding the nature of the service economy and its development and growth trends and for developing the skills needed to design services and conduct a course based on service development.
Brief description of the course
Topics: Service sector in the economy, the concepts and nature of personal and business services, personal services a.k.a. the care sector in the economy. The concept and nature of the service society.
The concept of the service economy, its development trends and reasons for growth. The impact of the service industry on the development of states.
History of service design; the concept and nature of service design; the objectives of service design; the role of the service provider and the customer and their responsibilities in the design process; needs, desires and expectations of the customer as the launcher of service design; customer-friendly services; methodology of service design; case studies of service designs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- discusses the concept of the service society and the importance of the service sector on the economy;
- interprets the service economy while distinguishing personal and business services;
- describes the care sector according to their own professional field;
- critically analyses and evaluates the development trends and growth aspects of the service economy and their impact on states’ development and the environment;
- analyses the nature of service design;
- analyses services in the field of study in accordance with the principles of service design;
- designs simpler services in the field of study in accordance with the needs, wishes and expectation of a group of customers;
- uses the basic concepts and terminology of the service economy and service design.
