Course aims
To create prerequisites for becoming familiar with a general education school's learning environment, studies and the teacher's role in it, to support the acquisition of basic observation skills so as to obtain an overview of a teacher's profession in basic school.
Brief description of the course
Becoming familiar with the school as an organisation. Becoming familiar with the school's and classroom's physical and emotional environment. Becoming familiar with the school's documentation. Observing the teacher's actions and role in school. Distinguishing the elements of a lesson's structure and defining them in time. Preparing parts of the lesson and carrying them out. A teacher's job shadow. A class teacher's job shadow. Cooperation with students and teachers in activities outside of class. Preparing activities outside of class and participating in carrying them out. Guiding the students' learning. Creating study materials.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- sees actions in school from a teacher's perspective and follows professional and ethical requirements;
- Knows the working principles of a school as an organisation;
- is able to observe and analyse the school's learning environment, the conducting of a lesson, the students' activities in a lesson and a teacher's different work tasks in school.
