Course aims
To create prerequisites for understanding and implementing (intervening in) social learning, and understanding the opportunities of adult learners and adult learning in groups, to support the impact of group possibilities on individual learning.
Brief description of the course
Social learning - the meaning of the social context in learning. Socialisation and learning. Questions of power in learning, and dialogue. Discourse, roles, identity, subjectness, and learning. Observation as a tool for analysing social learning. Means of intervention.
The group, and learning in a group. The study group and its formation. Group processes, the formation and development stages of group processes in different stages of training. Group cohesiveness. Analysis of group processes. Roles in a group and division of roles. Instructing the group. Social impact, relationships and communication in a group. Relationship between students and a group. Nature and overcoming of individual and group conflict. Resistance, individual conflict and its expression in a training group.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- notices, conceptualises and analyses learning from the social aspect;
- understands and hypothesises on the problems of social learning;
- carries out an observation in order to understand social learning;
- plans and carries out an intervention project related to social learning;
- understands the nature and connections between learning individually and in a group;
- is able to analyse themselves as a member of the group and as the student part of a group.
