Course aims
To create opportunities for the understanding of the content of and problems associated with the subject of adult education, as well as to support the development of orientation in the context of adult education and lifelong learning.
Brief description of the course
Development of adult education as a discipline, its problems, directions, values. Problems in adult education – evolution of the subject of self-development. Adult education as a field of activity and its role in social processes. The social and economic aspects of adult education. Lifelong learning as a function, objective, principle and opportunity. The sphere of lifelong learning.
Content of independent work: text analysis, comparative analysis, presenting and solving group tasks, compiling and presenting the course paper.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:

- understands adult education as an independent discipline, its subject, courses and problems;
- understands the main problem of adult education – agency of self-development;
- defines the characteristics of adult education as a field of activity;
- can elucidate learning theories, problems of lifelong learning and expanding the boundaries of learning and is able to define different learning situations.
